The WHA Individual Medal of Distinction recognises an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to improving the health and wellbeing of women and newborns through service provision, leadership or advocacy, relative to opportunity and years of experience.

2026 Individual Medal of Distinction Award

The medal may be awarded to members and non-members of Women’s Healthcare Australasia. For those directly affiliated with WHA, the criteria for awarding the Medal of Distinction include a significant period of service to WHA, and sustained leadership and advocacy for women’s health. Please include information of initiatives or innovations the team has undertaken against each of the relevant selection criteria: created measurable improvements in the experiences and/or outcomes of care for women and/or newborns, partnering with women and families in the design and delivery of maternity, newborn or women’s healthcare services and advocacy leading to improvements in the health of women and/or newborns beyond the individual service, including sharing of excellence and innovation with peers through WHA or other forums.

Description and Evidence (Maximum 150 words per criterion)

Please ensure each section is completed, as nominations will be assessed against all selection criteria. Provide clear examples and supporting evidence wherever possible to help the judging panel understand the nominee’s contribution, achievements and impact on the care, health and wellbeing of women, newborns and their families.
Describe how the nominee has improved the experiences, care, health or wellbeing of women and/or newborns through leadership, innovation or service improvement. Include clear examples and, where possible, evidence of impact or outcomes.
Describe how the nominee has meaningfully partnered with women, families and/or communities to improve healthcare services or experiences. Include examples of how consumer perspectives, lived experience or community needs informed their work.
Describe how the nominee has demonstrated leadership or advocacy and shared their knowledge, innovation or learnings with others. Include examples of broader influence or impact beyond their immediate service.
