Congratulations to our 2024 Individual Medal of Distinction Recipient – A/Professor Andrew Bisits. We would like to thank our members for their dedication and commitment to our vision, and for their time and generosity in contributing to the WHA Member Community.

About A/Professor Andrew Bisists' work

We are delighted to announce that the recipient of the 2024 WHA Individual Medal of Distinction is A/Prof Andrew Bisits.

Dr Bisits is an experienced Consultant Obstetrician who worked at John Hunter Hospital from 1991 to 2012 and then transitioned to the Royal Hospital for Women (Randwick) as Divisional Obstetric Lead where he remains today.

Dr. Bisits has well-worn pathways to his door when women planning homebirths under private midwifery care require medical input. Andrew is well known for his respectful, welcoming, and compassionate approach, supporting women as they navigate a new birth pathway. It is challenging to articulate the magic Andrew facilitates for women, rooted in the trust he places in them and his willingness to sit quietly, witnessing their journey to reclaim their power. His role has been pivotal in maintaining the birth space in NSW, providing essential options amid a rising trend of obstetric medical intervention.

Congratulations to Andrew on receiving this award!
