Ride for their Lives 2022 – 100s in healthcare cycling against air pollution

Can you spare a day to cycle for healthy children and a healthy climate?

Climate Acceptance Studios invites paediatric and neonatal healthcare providers around the world to join Ride for Their Lives 2022 (RFTL2).

Last year’s Ride for Their Lives 2021 (RFTL1) took place in the run-up to COP26. Healthcare providers, chiefly paediatric and neonatal, cycled a million kilometres to highlight to the international health community, policymakers and the wider public how air pollution and climate change cause child illness and death. The ride garnered international press coverage, was featured on screens in the Blue Zone and was the topic of a session at the summit.

We are seeking paediatric and neonatal healthcare providers – cyclists, runners and walkers – to repeat the success of that campaign.

Each group should actively travel from one healthcare setting to another. Most events will involve cycling, but walking, running and even paddling are also welcome. The aim is to make it as simple as possible for people to take part which is why it is suggested your event fits neatly into one day. But the journey can be as short or long as you like.

The rides will do far more than just ‘raise awareness’. They will have an important educational impact. But they will also will foster new connections between the climate campaigners among you. And they will equip you with a framework to make a practical difference, using the three pillars strategy.

The campaign is going global, hoping to make a giant splash at COP27 in November. Rides have now been organised in the United Kingdom, the United States, Colombia, Chile, Italy, France, Switzerland, and Ireland, with plenty more to be announced.

How do I set up a Ride for their Lives event?

1. Gather a small group of staff from at least two healthcare settings.

2. Pick a time and ride, run or walk from one setting to another, taking photos and videos along the way for your own page on our map.

3. Nominate a spokesperson from your riding group to speak to our team about how you can take action on the air quality and wider climate crisis.
