Neonatal Early Discharge Service at Gold Coast University Hospital - 23 November at 12:30pm (AEDT)

In August 2020 the Gold Coast University Hospital became the first hospital in Queensland to offer their Neonatal Early Discharge Service (NEDS), a hospital in the home service for pre term babies with tube feeds.

Establishing feeding is lengthy and babies with nasogastric tubes can remain in the hospital for multiple weeks. Mothers either have to stay in the room with their babies or come to and from home which can add stress especially if they have other children at home.

NEDS equips parents with the education and skills to do their babies’ feeds by tube so they can establish breastfeeding or bottle feed at home which then enables babies to be discharged early with a nasogastric tube.

This service plays an important role in bringing families back together after difficult times.
