Clinical Midwifery Consultant
Justine Elliott has been a Midwife for over 22 years and has worked in a number of roles across maternity with a strong focus in Birthing. In 2016 Justine became involved in the planning for a new maternity unit at Nepean Hospital, where her passion for redesigning services and improving the patient journey was recognised. In 2021 as the build neared completion, Justine joined the Nepean Redevelopment team as commissioning champion for Women and Children’s Health. Following “Go Live” in the new build (and a holiday), Justine has returned to the redevelopment team to take on another challenge, as the Program manager for Outpatient Services.

About
In 2016 NSW Government recognised that Penrith is one the fastest growing areas in NSW, and the current Nepean Hospital was not going to be able to meet the healthcare needs of the region. The Planning and ongoing consultation with stakeholders would continue through 2018 to ensure that $1 Billion redevelopment would deliver world class facilities.
Stage 1 of the Nepean Redevelopment(link is external) includes a contemporary 14-storey clinical building, providing a major expansion and upgrade of essential health services at Nepean Hospital. The new hospital tower features six floors of in‑patient bedrooms, additional operating theatres and 18 birthing rooms, expanded neonatal services and Emergency Department, and state-of-the-art medical equipment. It has been designed with hospital staff and the community to ensure it meets the health needs of everyone in the Penrith and Blue Mountains area - now and into the future.
But we all know that Hospitals Builds certainly starts years and years before construction begins and provide a unique opportunity to reflect on Maternity Models of Care and possible service innovations.
We have the truly unique opportunity to learn from the challenges and success of “Turning our dreams into reality”
